Fashion DIY: Trending ~ The Tassel

23 Aug

An easy way to spruce up a bag, a long necklace, or a clutch, can simply be done by adding a tassel.

I made the tassel in the picture above by gluing strands of silk thread into a bead cap. Before applying the glue, I inserted a metal finding and looped it inside the bead cap. From the other end, I created another loop (using round-nose pliers) to attach the key holder clasp.

I use this tassel every time I want to change the look of an accessory. It immediately adds a boho-chic vibe to the look. I made a number of other tassels that are now out of reach :-)

Materials used

  • Silk thread
  • Scissors
  • Super glue (or E6000)
  • Bead cap
  • Eye-pin (metal) finding
  • Clasp

Tassels & Tradition

No one culture can claim tassels to itself. In my culture, a tassel always reminds me of the loose end of a Sufi rosary ~ which always enjoys a nice-looking tassel. When I wear one I feel happy that global fashion is now more & more attracted to symbols & motifs from the Sufi tradition: Turbans, tassels, harem pants.
