Naturally Homemade: The healing powers of garlic

7 Feb

I have been wanting to start a series of articles on my blog with tips to heal and beautify using natural ingredients. I have tried (and read) many remedies over the years that I think work great in eliminating spots, healing aches and probably adding a touch of beauty to a tired face. I will start today with… Garlic.

These remedies are not dangerous, they are simple and easy, and can be integrated into one’s life routine easily, using ingredients in your pantry or garden.

Garlic for spots

For some reason or another, a spot (acne, pimples) or two might decide to appear on your face (especially the kind that spreads if you touch it). What do you do?

Via cosmosmagazine.com

Ingredients:

  • Pinch of salt
  • Less than half a minced garlic clove.
  • Cotton swab

Method:

Mix the minced garlic with a little, tiny bit of salt. Mix well until the salt looses itself in the garlic. Bring a cotton swab and put a tiny bit of the mixture on its tip and add very carefully to the tip of the spot. Do not let this mixture touch other areas of your skin because it will basically irritate it. This mixture is a strong disinfectant, and it doesn’t leave a scar behind, but you need to be careful when applying it. Leave it on your face for 1/2 an hour to an hour, then rinse with lukewarm water. Repeat next day.

Garlic for yellow nails

If you’re sporty and spend a lot of time in your sneakers, you might be prone to develop some sort of fungal infection at one point or another. If your nails go yellow, then this is a sign of some creeping fungal thing that has found home under the bed of the nail. but don’t worry, easy natural remedy for that. Manufactured products might not even come close to the healing powers of this one. But nature takes time, this will eliminate the problem from its roots, but it needs some time to show some results.

Ingredients:

  • Garlic clove.
  • Knife

Method:

  1. Do this when you know you’re staying indoors. First, you need to wash your feet well (or hands).
  2. Cut the garlic when you are about to use it. Garlic releases an endless chemical interaction when it is cut, these vital combinations stay dormant when the garlic is still whole, and if you cut the garlic much earlier than the time you’re going to use it, you may lose a big portion of the essential oils & goodness that are released when the garlic is first sliced
  3. Rub the garlic clove on the infected area. Rub well under the nail bed (between the nail and the flesh). Rub, rub, rub. Leave this on for the whole day if you can. Wear open toed sandals or flip-flops.
  4. Wash your feet with soapy water to reduce the garlic-y odor.

Garlic with Panadol (paracetamol)

Via boots.comLet’s say you have a headache, a cold, or any reason that makes you want to take a tablet of Panadol (or any other similar brand). Any kind of un-natural medicine has side-effects, that’s the belief of alchemists and natural healing specialists. To offset such bad effects, do the following…

Ingredients:

  • Clove of garlic sliced into four pieces.
  • Glass of water
  • Panadol tablet

Method:

Swallow each garlic piece with water, one at a time. The fifth gulp should be reserved for Panadol. Don’t take them all up at once, our bodies are sensitive to the way we treat them and do things, drinking down the garlic with the Panadol at one go is completely different from doing the routine the way I described it (again): Swallow your pieces of garlic with water, one at a time, then the Panadol pill (also swallow with water).

Garlic for life

To re-cap, there are thousands of healing remedies using garlic. I once read a whole book based on remedies created and used by a European king (I forgot his name). He treated almost everything using garlic water, garlic powder, garlic soups… you name it. You need to listen to your body and go where it is honestly telling you to go, and this needs an amount of self-understanding and a strong “observer” inside of you, who helps you live life the way you should!
